Bloomsburg Wins Season Opener over Bryant
BLOOMSBURG —The Bloomsburg University field hockey team, winners of three straight NCAA championships, began its season with a 3-0 win over Bryant on Saturday.
Morgan Wolf (Oley/Oley Valley) scored the Huskies' first goal 19:29 into the game, followed by a goal from Samantha Kropa (Tunkhannock/Lackawanna Trail) less than 20 seconds later. Jamie Vanartsdalen (Philadelphia/Lower Moreland) had assists on both goals for Bloomsburg.
In the second half, the Huskies were able to attack Bryant and hold the offensive position from the larger part of the half. Kristi Ney (Dauphin/Central Dauphin East) led the Huskies, putting the ball in the middle of the circle, giving Bloomsburg a number of opportunities to score. Kelly Trevisan (Lancaster/Manheim Township) was able to capitalize on Ney's play, scoring the Huskies' lone second half goal off another assist by Vanartsdalen with 20 minutes to play.
In goal, Tracey Hudak (Sweet Valley/Lake-Lehman) had three saves for the Huskies as Bloomsburg out shot Bryant, 24-4.
Bloomsburg will host Houghton on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.
